Creating The Atmosphere For God Through Dynamic Songlist
by Dinah Armesin
 |
|
Before selecting songs, the worship leader should seek God for direction for the service. Don’t look on formulas in worship. Don’t repeat last week’s song list, because what worked then will not necessarily be right today.
|
|
- Theme & Direction
The THEME refers to the central message of the line-up of songs that God reveals in the heart of the worship leader.
Theme Verse
Theme Title
By building on a topic, the worship is given some direction.
- Line-up of Songs
THE LINE-UP OF SONGS is the ROAD MAP that serves as a guide in releasing the flow of
the Holy Spirit to create greater awareness of the presence of God among the people that will lead them into whole-hearted and focused worship of God.
Joyful Songs
Solemn Songs
Every song has its own message which creates various emotions and focuses on different aspects of God or the Christian life. When a leader chooses a song, the ‘purpose’ of the song must be clear in his/her mind.
THE LINE-UP OF SONGS ESTABLISHES THE FLOW, WHILE PRESENTING THE SONGS RELEASES THE
FLOW.
- Seamless Flow
“What happens if I run out of songs & I am left standing there with nothing to say?”
It is important to spend time thinking through how songs flow together. We must keep finding ways to link
songs together that will help focus and bring freshness to the worship. |

- Something Fresh
Ways To Keep The Music & Worship Fresh:
A new song can bring new revelation, so a regular injection of new songs is helpful. However, it is important that we don’t introduce too many. When you do introduce a new song, you give at least 3-4 weeks to catch on.
Take an old song and give it a new arrangement. It can be wonderful to incorporate these songs in a new way...give them a new feel.
Use older choruses such as:
"Jesus We Enthrone You"
"Father We Love You (Glorify Your name...)"
"Our Father (For Thine is the kingdom...)"

5. One Final Consideration
There are seasons when a particular song has a special anointing. For a while it seems to express everything we want to say to God as individuals and as a community. When these songs come along in your church, run with them. Don’t be shy about using them. But be careful not to KILL them. Sometimes we rely on these songs too much, and because people have responded well in the past, we keep on using the songs. We feel confident that the worship will go well if we sing that particular song. |
Conclusion: WHEN MAKING A SONG LIST, BE DIRECTED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT!
SAMPLE 1
Theme Title : TOTAL COMMITMENT TO OUR SAVIOR
Theme Verses : Luke 5:3-5; Gal. 2:20; Matt. 16:24
Luke 5:3-5 - And He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to push out a little way from the land. And he sat down and began teaching the multitudes from the boat. 4And when He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch." 5And Simon answered and said, "Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but at your bidding I will let down the nets."
Gal. 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Joyful Songs
Explanation:"It is no longer I who live," Paul states. Here I believe we can see what kind of commitment Paul
had made to live for the Lord. We must understand that if we want to live as Paul lived, we must realize that
we must surrender our wills to the will of Christ.
TAKE IT ALL
OVERTAKEN
Solemn/Worship Songs
Explanation:Peter had reached the point of no return. He left everything and followed his Lord. Yes, there were failures yet to come in Peter's life. Total commitment does not mean perfection. It's a matter of taking self off every throne of life and enthroning Christ.
I WILL GIVE YOU ALL MY WORSHIP
LORD I GIVE YOU MY HEART (chorus)
ALABASTER JAR (chorus: Here I am take me…)
CONCLUSION:As we surrender our lives & everything we do to Him, give Him full permission to do with us
as He wills, make ourselves completely available to Him, and are COMMITTED TOTALLY to His purposes…
we clear the way for Him to accomplish His will.
