ATTACHED AND DETACHED
Edith Mendoza

While on a mission trip in Mira Mesa, San Diego, California, USA to be their 2nd year church anniversary speaker, I had the time to do a lot of reflections, and yes, even a time to write.
With the series of ministering the Word followed by spontaneous worship which aptly call as Soaking in the Spirit Sessions (SSS), what has been happening here can not be attributed to any work of man, but only to the work of the Spirit. My words will fall short in describing what God by His grace has done. I only have one word --- BREAKTHROUGH!
I am not going to write about breakthrough this time, but a spiritual insight which His Spirit is stirring in my heart. WHEN DOES A MINISTER STAY ATTACHED AND STAY DETACHED IN REFERENCE TO THE WORK OF GOD?
Such opposing words which are at the extreme end of its individual meaning, yet there is something about being attached and being detached which I have learned in the process of serving God.
When the temple built during the reign of Solomon was being dedicated, it was so vividly described how everyone, from the king to the leaders, the patriarchs, the priests, the Levites stood on their assigned roles and ministered to God. This is what I perceive as attachment – to be glued or to be stuck to the calling and the role God has placed upon a person; to be persistent in pursuing this call thereby being one with the mind and the heart of God; to follow through the work or task assigned until it is finished. This is what the people did at this time, such unity that everybody supported, delivered, fulfilled, accomplished because they were attached to the purpose of God. Let us not forget that this is one of the glorious manifestations of God’s heavenly presence on earth.

Let me commend the priests who carried the ark of the covenant inside the Holy of Holies, and soon as the cloud of glory descended, these priests WITHDREW from the innermost place and allowed God to minister to His people. What a graphic powerful message for all ministers!
After doing what we are supposed to do, expressing our attachment to the calling of God, the vision of the church, the people we work with and serve, there is a time to be detached so that in no way none of us would feel wanting to be recognized nor be commended, even calling it quits when corrected. There is a time to be detached so that we do not miss the point – this is God’s work not man’s. |
Let us ponder upon these two opposites, applying each extreme as needed. Having shared this, I have peace in my heart that I can forever be attached to my
God and detached from the work which only He could do and wholeheartedly pray, “All glory to God alone!” |
